Careers at AVRO · Midtown Toronto
Teach where every student is truly known.
If you became a teacher to reach the students a big school leaves behind, you will feel at home here. AVRO Academy is a small, supportive independent high school in midtown Toronto, and our classrooms are built around knowing each teen well enough to help them thrive.
Since 2010, AVRO has paired a real Ontario high school education with the structure, patience, and one-to-one attention that bright, capable teens need to rebuild their confidence. That work only happens because of the people in the room. If you are a patient, creative educator who is happiest when a student who was sliding starts to find their footing, we would love to hear from you.
What it is like to teach here
Small classes
You teach to a handful of students, not a room of thirty. You have the time to notice who is struggling, answer real questions, and adapt on the spot.
Teaching that fits the student
You meet students where they are, adjust the pace, and pivot to one-on-one attention whenever a teen needs it. Here, that is the job, not a distraction from it.
Mission you can feel
Every family who walks through our door is looking for a place that finally works for their teen. Your work has a direct, visible effect on a young person’s year.

How to apply
We are always glad to hear from great educators, even when we are not actively hiring. If you are a teacher with special education experience, send us your resume and a note about the subjects you love to teach. When a position opens, whether in the arts and humanities or in math, science, and business, yours will be one of the first we reach for.
Are you a graduate student focused on education, psychology, or the autism spectrum? We would welcome your resume too. We can often make room for internships and volunteer placements that give you real, hands-on experience.
